About the Course To provide a valuable tool in the fight against the proliferation of counterfeit and substandard components, the Independent Distributors of Electronics Association (IDEA) published IDEA-STD-1010: Acceptability of Electronic Components Distributed in the Open Market, the first quality standard for the visual inspection of electronic components. As cited in AS5553 and adopted by NASA, this Standard has sold in more than nineteen (19) countries and is based upon techniques developed as a collaborative effort of the industry’s leading Independent Distributors. IDEA strives to increase the confidence of both customers and employers in the quality of electronic components through the dissemination of these techniques in the IDEA Inspection Training Course. The Course provides a basic introduction to Counterfeit Mitigation as well as an introduction to IDEA-STD-1010, including training in methods for the visual detection of counterfeit and substandard characteristics, through a hands-on workshop. The curriculum is based upon IDEA-STD-1010 in preparation for the IDEA-ICE-3000 Professional Inspector Certification Exam. The training environment provides a unique opportunity to examine real components with live, on-site microscopic magnification to obtain experience in the visual inspection techniques of IDEA-STD-1010 and learn how to detect counterfeit components firsthand. Registrants who complete the Course receive a Certificate of Completion and one (1) copy of the Course presentation. Note: Successful completion of the course does not guarantee eligibility for the IDEA-ICE-3000 Exam. Candidates must be employees of an OEM, CM, EMS Provider, or an IDEA General Member to meet eligibility requirements for the Exam. All prospective IDEA-ICE-3000 Exam candidates must contact IDEA prior to submitting an application to confirm they have fulfilled all eligibility requirements.
