Updated Daily, the Board Provides Instant Access To Non-Conforming Parts

Princeton Junction, NJ, August 24, 2004- As part of an ongoing effort to fight the war on non-conforming parts, which continue to plague the independent distribution channel, the Independent Distributors of Electronics Association (IDEA) recently established a "Non-Conforming Parts Board" that is now accessible via the Internet. The Board is designed for use exclusively by members of IDEA, a non-profit trade association representing the independent distributor market segment.

"The Non-Conforming Parts Board will allow members of IDEA to keep track of and immediately notify, or alert the independent distributor community about newly identified non-conforming parts that are circulating in the marketplace," said Nick Davis, president of IDEA. "This type of ‘heads up' alert will help ensure that our members are protected and therefore less likely to fall victim to buying substandard parts," he added.

IDEA members can easily access the Non-Conforming Parts Board by visiting the IDEA website at www.idofea.org. Easy to navigate, the Board allows users to track items by the manufacturer's name, individual part numbers, production date and lot code. The database also includes the reason the product is non-conformant e.g. it fails electrically.

IDEA members are encouraged to post their own listings to the site and can do so by following the simple instructions provided on the site. "There are currently 600 items listed, with more items being posted to the Board," noted Davis. "We anticipate that eventually thousands of parts will be included in this comprehensive database, making it a terrific tool for IDEA members and offering them another line of defense against sub-standard, non-conforming parts. If the distributor provides quality products, the customer is happy and will likely become a returning customer. It's a win-win for everyone."

Users can check parts instantly and be confident in all of the information contained within this site. "Even though the listings are submitted anonymously, they are all provided by established and reputable members of IDEA who are looking out for what's best in the industry," explained Davis. "Information is the key to success in this business," he added. "Those of us that have info are at a distinct competitive advantage. Companies that don't have this info on their desktop are more likely to experience problems. That is what IDEA is about. Identifying problems in the independent distribution channel and finding solutions to those problems. This is one way we are able to do that."
